You Won't BEE-lieve it! **Plus A Reveal**

So....I'm SURE stranger things have happened.
But it's not very often that lightning strikes twice. Or THRICE in my case.
Remember that time I recently bought my DREAM chair on Craigslist?
It was a late 19th century/early 20th century French antique with a goose down cushion.
Well, I happened upon TWO more chairs at an antique store-
in the middle of an industrial type booth of all places!

There they were: ON SALE and very reasonably priced!
I could not believe I'd found two more French chairs with the...
Same Napoleon bee print...
Same stunning legs...
Same lovely elbow cushions...
Same bit of wear and tear on the back...
{can you see the damask design?}
Both...regal. And heavy to carry around for pictures!

Speaking of carrying...
The young chap who helped me load them TOTALLY INSULTED? me.
Guy: "YOU...are EXTREEEEMELY...."
{I thought he was going to say something like:
"Fortunate to have found these."
Or...
"Extremely fabulous."
ANYTHING BUT...}
Guy:...."white."
Me: "White?? I'm extremely WHITE? Um..."
Me: "No one's EVER told me that before." {Because although it's true, it's TACKY.}
Guy: {Hoisting chair into my SUV} "Well, there's a first time for everything."
*THAT WAS HIS ACTUAL RESPONSE.*
Me: "Well, I've had skin cancer in the past, so I try to stay out of the sun."
Guy: {Indifferent silence.}
Me: "'KayThanksByeNow!!"

Nice to know he was looking at my GLUE-WHITE legs and face with a bit of shock the whole time.
After that self-esteem boosting encounter nonsense, I got home and took this picture of my little good luck charm. I say that because she had on a BEE DRESS, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

My little bee chair-mer. ;) Get it?? No?
So...that's how my chairs came to bee.
The yellow one is now in our bedroom...
while these dress up the back half of the living room.
Tres magnifique, n'est-ce pas?
I'm now a true bee-liever in French-spiration.
I think I'll sit my Casper-colored self down and relax now. ;)

What am I talking about?! Moms don't get to sit down!

Another score! I found some French chairs at a flea market I went to this weekend, but the walk to the was too far and I didn't want to carry them block after block through the city. oh well, i'm sure i'll find one another time.

Hi Meredith, the chairs are charming. You are fortunate to find three. I think that conversation is funny. My daughter and I are pale pale too and avoid the sun. White is good, actually great, for us. You will age so much better being out of the sun. By the way Joe has mailed your package. Thanks for your kind patience. I had to get my kiddo half way around the world and she is still giving me plenty of stuff to do. xo, olive

That is too lucky! THREE gorgeous chairs! Okay...I'm maybe just a tad bit jealous. They look fab.
People who say things like that....a friend of mine would say "they have no social filter whatsoever." They just say whatever they're thinking. I had to laugh though! Never heard of anyone saying such a thing!

Linda said...

Great chairs, all three! My son gets those pale comments. As if white is a sign of the plague! Happy to be pale:)))) Linda @Wetcreek Blog

you are starting a bee-utiful collection here. Here an Italian saying (and tongue twister)for your situation: per parlare prima pensare, perche' parlando per parlare, potreste pentirvi...basically is saying think before you speak or you may regret what you just said. That young chicken should learn from Italian proverbs :)

Meredith, you are so lucky when it comes to finding beautiful chairs!

I've been called pale before so I wasn't shocked. What shocked me was the rude reply, "there's a first time for everything".

I've heard people act like that before but it always shocks me a little when people are so rough around the edges.

Maybe he just thought you were cute so he picked at you a little?

Alright, so I am not the only one in the whole world that is "very white"! I was actually at a Craft Show in a park and a vendor, who by the way had skin like burnt leather as did his wife, said "wow, you don't get outside much do you"? I was very insulted and still remember the encounter. By the way I love the chairs.

Sarah said...

I'm here buzzing with joy for you over finding these chairs. Great finds! What makes it even better is your total appreciation for these pieces.
As for the comment, pretty strange that anyone would say something like that. Guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

Umm, those chairs are great! It's awesome that you had the perfect space for them - they look awesome in the picture! I laughed at the story of the guy who put them in your car though - even though it was, as you said, TACKY ... as a mom of 3 boys, I am just waiting for the day one (or all?) of them says something strange like that.

Hope you have a great day today - enjoy every minute!
