Celebrating Sutton - Family Photos and A Confession

Did you know Sweet Sutton will turn 2 on the 23rd?!
{Cue my compulsive need to take pictures.}
Grayson INSISTED on wearing one of Daddy's ties.
Just looking at this boy can make me spontaneously love-cry.
And "Sissy" is holding one of the roses my mom sent me in the hospital when I gave birth.
I admit it. Today, I was THAT mom. The one who bought a pretty new dress for her daughter, insisted on taking the family to the nearby flower garden in the heat and carrying around a bag of props {think shabby blanket and such}...just in case Sutton was willing to "take direction" from me. Ha! #ImNotMakingThisUp
Does it LOOK like she wants to emulate Anne of Green Gables??
Grayson's shoes hurt, so he took them off and said his "feet were broken!"
At this point, both the children were bawling, and Joey and I were arguing about all the picture-taking.

So, I gave up. I let Sutton wander...
And guess what ? The magic happened.
Shoeless Grayson was a lot happier...
The two most beautiful parts of my life...smiled at their mama. The one who had lost her patience.
The one who cared more about her agenda than about letting her precious children explore the amazing beauty around them.

***Father forgive me.***
I'm mostly a laid-back gal, and I pretend and play with my kids daily. BUT-
One of my biggest weaknesses is not being flexible.
Yet, today, when I finally turned flexible and invited the kids to play ring-around-the-rosy...

...Joey captured the most touching photo of my life
The photo that signifies WHY my cup runneth over.
Now THIS is how I want my children to remember their mama.

I love you more than life, sweet Sutton and Grayson!

You are a wonderful mom, Meredith. I feel the same for my children. And I love how they know it. Some children don't really know how deep their mother loves them. My oldest will be the first to admit how crazy I am over my kids. Your children will know, too. What a wonderful gift.

Good Morning Meredith, Your photographs are lovely, but when you gave your children the freedom to roam, the photographs were even lovelier. The final photograph which your husband took is so precious and when you look at that photograph in years to come, when your children are much, much older, you will always relive that wonderful moment.
Best Wishes to you,
Daphne

Oh Meredith, I could so relate and so admire your honesty. It has been many years since I had little ones, but flexibility was always a problem for my regimented mind. And I know I missed so many precious moments as a result. I am so glad you are learning this most valuable lesson early. Many more memory making experiences ahead for you and your precious family.

Awww, how precious Meredith...beautiful photos! Your babies are adorable...they grow up way to fast, don't they?! And yes, I LOVE that last picture...sums it all up! I'm sure that's exactly how they'll remember their sweet momma! Your line about being flexible made me laugh. Dr. Mark Barclay taught us a proverbs years ago..."blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be broken". I have to refer to that from time to time, oh how it's so true! Thanks for sharing your wonderful pics...have a wonderful week my friend!

Oh Meredith, such a sweet post! Your sweet children's faces say it all, especially when you let them explore. They are adorable. The ring around the rosy is priceless. You are a wonderful Mom. Sutton and Grayson are such beautiful names. I wished I had been more creative when it came to naming my children. Thank you as always Meredith for your sweet visit. xo

Oh how I loved this post! The picture of the two of them with his shoes off is priceless and you topped it off with the three of you. The thing about logging our lives, this is heartwarming for your family and them to read years down the line. I really enjoyed that one.

What a beautiful post and great reminders. I tend to be very non flexible when it comes to photos especially. I'm glad you were able to get great photos of your kids! Letting them run around and explore sometimes works a lot better than trying to pose them.

Happy birthday, Sutton! Such a sweet family. We all sometimes get caught up in other things, and real life passes us by. Children grow up so fast, I'm glad you are savoring the moment and enjoying them.
