An Update From Oklahoma

First of all, my family is safe and well. Our home is in Oklahoma City, and the tornadoes hit the city of Moore...about 20 minutes from my home.

Sirens sounded many times here, but we simply got rain and hail.

{These are some pictures from my phone as the devastation unfolded.}
I've been glued to the TV all day...hiding my tears from Grayson and Sutton. I've lived in Oklahoma my whole life, and we've never experienced devastation of this magnitude - not even the infamous May 3, 1999 tornado was this horrific.
Our news anchors had to turn away with tears in their eyes. One reporter uncovered a deceased mother and her  deceased 7 month old - hiding in a 7Eleven.

This F5 tornado formed extremely quickly - not leaving much time to seek shelter.

This man {below} works on the Orr Family Farm, which lost nearly all of their 100+ horses. {Some surviving horses were injured, hopefully not to the point of having to be put down.}

He's describing how he hid in a stable and was thrown 100 feet. Behind him is what's left of his living quarters in the stable.
People were walking out of Moore towards Downtown OKC, not knowing where to go...just knowing they couldn't stay there.

This is one of the elementary schools. About 75 children and teachers "hid" in this hallway, and here's what's left of it:
 As of tonight, 7 children are confirmed deceased. I am grief-stricken for the parents of these children.

Will you pray for these families who've lost EVERYTHING? I can't imagine the loss they are experiencing.

Thank you for your prayers and thoughts!

*****Also, this week I'm having a garage sale, so I'll be out of Blogland for a while.*****

Remember, I reply to all of your emails unless you're a "No-Reply Blogger", in which case, I can't directly respond to you.

This week I'm linking up with these lovely blogs:

Good Afternoon Meredith, I am so pleased to hear that you and your family are safe and sound. We awoke to the news this morning and we just could not believe our eyes. I have never seen anything like it.... the devastation... the homes which have been swept away.
I am so very sorry to hear about the people who have lost their lives and just to let you know, we are all thinking and praying for the families.
Best Wishes

I am happy you and the family are safe. I cannot imagine how scary it would be to know the tornado was so close. I remember the sirens going off all the time in Tulsa but never having anything happen.
Sending prayers out!

Meredith, I'm so happy you were not
hit by that monster.. My girl lives on the county line. 134th and 4th st and that sucker just missed her home
by 1 block.. she said they were so afraid while in their shelter, the noise above was horrible as debris hit her home. Her street was littered with much debris and the entire neighborhood behind her was flattened! God was with them on this day! All her favorite shopping places are gone not to mention all the homes!
Gina and her children have had no water or power so are staying with a friend in OKC and the Coast Guard are helping out in the field all day. One thing she said after her ride around yesterday looking for what she could do to help, "The people are wonderful here".. some signs on homes, "Lunch at 2pm" and "Coffee" and the local eye shop "Free Glasses", food shops "Free food" and on her corner and many more, stacks of water, pampers and necessities all for the taking...Just amazing!
The lord was with us both!
take care

Glad to hear y'all are ok. Having lived nearby in he past makes it so much more real. A family I used to babysit for and teach in Sunday school lost their house - everyone is okay, but their earthly goods are gone. Those things and "knowing" you through blog land sure make the events of Monday more real and sobering.

Prayers for those affected - and for those who weren't too, that they might be a blessing.

Have a good day, Meredith!

Oh Meredith - thank God you weren't affected - I didn't realize you lived in Oklahoma sweetheart!
It's too much - everything all over the news just keeps breaking my heart over and over again - stay safe, and of course prayers for all.
Much love,
