You're in a restaurant when you run into an old friend and her new boyfriend- a guy who just happens to be looking to produce a movie about a three-legged dog who saves the world, preferably written by an unknown artist.
For all purposes of the story, this is great! Because YOU are a perfect nobody who has been meaning to write a movie about a three-legged pooch who saves the world! Now is your chance, right?
Sadly, no. The boyfriend needs the entire script by next week and you haven't even typed up your title page.
Back to present time. Maybe this example isn't the best one, but I want to get you thinking about opportunities. Would you be ready if you happened upon yours?I spent some of this evening helping a close friend update their resume for an interview tomorrow morning. They got the call late this afternoon, therefore they had little time to prepare and needed some assistance.
Sometimes, that's how life works. The chance to prove ourselves comes out of nowhere - or without notice.
So. Do you have a book that you've been meaning to write? What if you met someone tomorrow who had all the right connections? Don't wait for the connection to write the book. Do it the other way around. Even if a connection never comes - you'll be ready either way.
Are you hoping to break into a field that would take you to the next level? Keep your resume updated. Dress as if you're already a candidate.
No matter what you're hoping for, or what you've included on your Secret List, get ready. Don't wait for the opportunity. Bring the opportunity to you. It's only either a matter of time, being in the right place, meeting the right person or a vacant spot opening with your name written on it.
Thought For the Day: I recall hearing that 90% of success is being prepared. Remember, it's never too late to get your ducks in a row!
